Examiner.com - sponsor interview
What does your company do and how do you work with Drupal?
Examiner.com has developed a business model that successfully blends topical and local content. This means that Examiners write articles in a manner that proves they are knowledgeable about their assigned subject matter and they make it relevant on a local level. In addition, Examiners provide useful, relevant information to readers who share similar passions in their local communities.
The combination of a compelling topic with a local angle is the most important aspect of any Examiners’ contributions. Examiner.com offers a credible, growing audience for local business marketers, and brand marketers the opportunity to engage with “geo-topically” segmented online influencers and their consumer audiences.
Examiner.com was one of the first major sites utilizing Drupal 7. The team was developing against head many months before an Alpha version of the software was released. Examiner also makes use of Open Atrium as an Intranet for our "Examiners", the site's contributing writers.
How did you first get involved in Drupal?
With more than 70,000 contributors across North America, Examiner.com is the fastest-growing local content network in the U.S., and shows no signs of slowing down. Moving to a platform that could grow with us was a critical decision for the company, which began late last year with our acquisition of NowPublic.com.
Examiner.com’s long-term strategic vision leverages social media for improving online content distribution, which Drupal readily supports. Our commitment to supporting the success and satisfaction of our Examiners fueled the need to improve our publishing tools. Drupal provided a customizable and scalable solution for our specific needs.
What type of work and/or websites do you specialize in?
We have everything from award-winning writers to very passionate mothers who are experts in a particular subject. Examiners come from all backgrounds and have a common desire to share their knowledge and experience to help and inform others. A sampling of Examiners includes active and retired journalists; meteorologists; pro and amateur athletes; fashion models; published authors; photographers; government workers; professors; PhDs; stay-at-home moms; musicians; real estate agents; business owners and entrepreneurs. The topics we cover are as just as diverse as the contributors who write for us.
