Gaia Environmental Sciences - sponsor interview
This is the first in a series of interviews with our amazing and generous DrupalCamp CO 2011 sponsors.
What does your company do and how do you work with Drupal?
We do computer programming consulting work and web development primarily with Drupal. We also do some high performance computing programming work. We have several decades of experience programming in a Unix/Linux environment so we can tackle more difficult problems than a typical Drupal shop.
How did you first get involved in Drupal?
I began working with the internet because of my work with high performance computing in the early 90's. We put online all of our materials for the programming workshops we taught. Eight years ago I started using PHP and MySQL to develop custom websites. I wrote custom websites because I felt that any of the content management systems would not be flexible enough for me. Three years ago I heard that Drupal is very flexible, tried it and I began using it instead.
What type of work and/or websites do you specialize in?
I specialize in back end web development for Drupal. I have written many custom modules for both Drupal 6 and Drupal 7. I wrote a custom module for Ubercart that displays attributes depending on the value of another attribute.
What are you most looking forward to at DrupalCamp Colorado this year?
Meeting other people that work with Drupal. The Drupal community is very open to sharing techniques and helping others learn more about Drupal. I also look forward to learning new techniques and sharing what I have learned.
Is there anything else you'd like our attendees to know?
I work with the Supercomputing Challenge which is a program for high school and middle school students to work in teams on a project that involves computer modeling.
